You Are Our Friend

By Timothy Glenn Campbell

No one should be alone,

Though sometimes we run solo.

Join us in person or through phone,

In vest and sweats, t-shirt, tie, and polo.

Our lives are rarely smooth,

Containing emotional turmoil,

But maybe those are bristles,

Cleaning as we toil.

So don’t hide away yourself,

Trying to avoid a fuss,

Because together we can shine,

And scrub away the rust.

Sometimes there is friction,

Or the distance we can feel,

But we still say ‘see you later,’

We sharpen steel on steel.

So be hotheaded like a forge,

Or cold like a water source,

Because that is how we smith,

Unbreaking and unyielding to force.

You belong in our group,

Your spot is reserved here.

We love you through your bouts,

And accept you with your fear.

So come in good outfits or bad,

In person or through phone,

Even if you run solo,

You don’t stand alone.
